Ragging is the name given to criminal activities, which take place inside educational institutions in India. It is a systemized from of human rights abuse in educational institutions. Ragging is different form other crimes because the motive is solely to get perverse pleasure. Ragging in any from, harassing, torturing & intimidating new students is strictly banned in the college. Student found indulging in such activities will be expelled from the College & FIR lodged against them with the police if required.
Hon’ble Supreme Court India defines ragging:
Any disorderly conduct whether by words spoken or written.
An act, which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness any other student.
Indulging in rowdy or indiscipline activities which cause or likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm to fellow students.
To raise fear or apprehension in a fresher or a junior students.
Asking the students to do any act or perform something which such student will not do in the ordinary course which generates a shame or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the psyche of a fresher or a junior student.
Showing off power, authority or superiority by the seniors over their juniors or fresher.
